Imagine being Mary of Hungary or Charles V on the spacious terrace in the apple and pear orchard of Bistro Karel 5 or inside our cozy bistro in the heart of Utrecht.You can have lunch and dinner around the open kitchen and drinks in the Bar & Lounge.


In the monastery kitchen our chef prepares daily classic dishes from seasonal products, often from the region. Classic, but always with a contemporary and creative twist. Look at our menu for the latest creations from our chef. For a cappuccino with pie or a nice glass of wine, our brasserie is also the place to be. And our bites menu includes more than just croquettes!

The team

The Chef and Bistro Manager, serve their favorite dishes from the open kitchen. The chef and his team are inspired by the seasons and prefer to cook with traditional and organic products from the region with a touch of contemporary experience. All products are carefully checked to ensure the quality. The Bistro Manager and team stand for an informal and welcoming setting, where the attention is always focused on you.

Try our afternoon tea. A subtle variation on high tea. Afternoon tea became popular in the nineteenth century to close the gap between lunch and dinner. At Karel 5 it is served around two o’clock in the afternoon.
