Countess Johanna van Meurs was one of the longest staying guests to ever visit us here at Karel V. We have honoured the Countess’ presence, in naming the “Gravin van Meurs” room after her. It is a cosy meeting room, located in the “Boerderij” (farmhouse) in the Monastery’s courtyard. Countess van Meurs was wed to Jacob, son of Count Frederik van Meurs, whose father was a knight in the Order of the Golden Fleece after 1431. Details of the life of Johanna van Meurs are scant. However, we know that she founded a Religious Order of the Friars Minor in Weert and bore Jacob eight children.
