Discover the hidden ‘Officierstuin’. An oasis of peace in the middle of a hectic city. The garden is rich of monumental trees and historical stories.
Once upon a time there was a church on this spot, but due to the storm of 1674 it was destroyed. During the time of the military hospital (1823 till 1989), the garden was only accessible for the officers, hence the name ‘Officierstuin’ which is the Dutch word for ‘officers garden’. In a gesture of gratitude, students from Japan, as a parting gift, donated special trees to the military hospital. In the courtyard and the Officers Garden in Utrecht, you can admire one of Japan’s largest native nut trees – the Ginkgo Biloba –, and a more than three centuries old Oriental sycamore.
The ‘Officierstuin’ is a beautiful location that offers a lot of opportunities. It is the perfect spot for a drink, dinner, wedding or exhibition.
